Ceremonies — Registration Open

Graduating Students' Registration for March 28 Ceremony

Students who have completed their undergraduate degree requirements or are on track for completion of their degree requirements for Spring 2020 Convocation should have received instructions from the Engineering Student Centre (ESC) and may register here.

Registration will remain open until February 20, 2020.

Practising Engineer Registration for March 28 Ceremony

Registration for practising engineers (i.e. those with P.Eng. or EIT/MIT status) is now open and will remain open until February 20 or until the available spaces at the ceremony are taken.

Camp 18 holds two Obligation Ceremonies per year.

The Fall Ceremony is typically held in November for practising engineers who wish to undertake the Obligation and receive their Iron Ring. A limited number of new graduates may also attend this ceremony.

The Spring Ceremony is primarily for students graduating from the Schulich School of Engineering. If space is available, a limited number of practising engineers may also receive their iron rings at this ceremony.

Students in Masters programs are not eligible for the Iron Ring unless they also have a Canadian-accredited Bachelors degree or their academic credentials have been accepted by a provincial licensing body such as APEGA.  These people should register as practising engineers (below).

Eligibility Requirements

To attend an obligation ceremony, engineers must meet the following criteria:

  1. Completion of an engineering degree recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, or
  2. A declaration of being equivalently academically qualified for registration as a Professional Engineer by at least one provincial or territorial association of Professional Engineers (eg APEGA).

Q: Can a close family member or colleague present me with my Iron Ring?

Yes, provided they are an Obligated Engineer and are wearing their Iron Ring at the time of the Ceremony.

Guest presenters should be a family member, mentor, or colleague with significant engineering experience.  Please arrive an hour before the Ceremony start time and introduce yourselves to one of the wardens in the lobby.  You will receive simple instructions on how the presentation works.
