The Next Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer

Registration will open in January for the next Virtual Iron Ring Ceremony

Our registration page will open on Jan 28th and close on Feb 25th, and you will be able to register for the next ceremony.  Check the information below for the  things  you will need to know, or have available to register.  We had hoped to do this one in person, but that’s not possible with the current omicron situation.

This will be a Virtual Online event, as we have been doing for the past 2 years now. Its a very good broadcast, takes about 1 hour, and you can invite as many online guests as you like. We will mail your ring and certificate to you right after we confirm your online attendance.  Usually your ring will arrive within two weeks of the event, unless Canada post has a problem with your address.  Please check the FAQ page if your question is not addressed below.

The next Iron Ring Ceremony in Calgary is planned for March  12th, 1:30 PM

We will need your ring size!  Go to any jewelry shop to get the Pinky finger of your working hand sized for a standard North American ring, it will be 1 to 12, in full and half sizes only. There should be no charge for this.

Registration for the ceremony will open in January and close on Feb 25th.  Graduates from other Canadian universities and professional members from APEGA will be welcome to attend the virtual event as usual.

This will be a Virtual ceremony again, we will send you the detailed login instructions about a week prior to the event. Please make sure to set your Spam filter to accept our emails.

You must attend. Everyone who wishes to wear the Iron Ring must attend a Ceremony and undertake the Obligation in the presence of their peers.  This is at the core of the tradition of the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer. If you register but are unable to attend the ceremony for any reason, we will not be able to send your ring. We are a volunteer group and  don’t do refunds, so if you miss the event we are sorry, you will need to register and pay for the next one. Please be aware that attendance will be taken.

Guests are allowed.  You can invite  your guests to attend the ritual online at no charge.

Are you eligible?   All students graduating with an undergraduate degree in Engineering from a Canadian University, and practicing engineers accepted for professional membership by APEGA, EIT’s and P.Eng, are eligible to attend the Iron Ring Ceremony.  Iron Ring Camps across Canada are listed here.

When you register, and if you are graduating from a university other than U of C, we will ask you to upload your diploma or other documentation such as as a transcript to validate your graduation. APEGA members will simply need to supply their APEGA registration number.

We have ring exchange program.  If your ring doesn’t fit very well after you receive it we  have a mail in  exchange program, no charge for this. Check the Ring Exchange page for the details.
