The Next Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer

Registration will open on Feb 1 for the next Iron ring Ceremony

Our registration page will open on February 1st, and you will be able to register for the spring ceremony during the entire month of February.  Check the information below for the  things  you will need to know or have available to register. The ritual will be held online again as we successfully did last fall. Check the FAQ page as well if your question is not addressed below.

The next Iron Ring Ceremony in Calgary is planned for March 27, 1:30 PM (Virtual online)

We will need your ring size!  Go to any jewelry shop to get the Pinky finger of your working hand sized for a standard North American ring, it will be 1 to 12, in full and half sizes only. There should be no charge for this.

Registration for the March 27 ceremony will open Feb 1st,  2021.  Graduates from other Canadian universities and professional members from APEGA will be welcome to attend as usual.

Virtual Webinar Event We expect that the Ritual will be held on-line, as we successfully did in November. Rings and certificates will be mailed out to those who attend right after the event.  It worked very well last time, we even listed the names of all those in attendance and opened up the chat room. We take attendance, so you must log into the Webinar using the Email you have provided to us. We will also conduct an on line Poll right after the Obligation which you must respond to in order for us to confirm your attendance, and be able to send your ring to you.

You must attend. Everyone who wishes to wear the Iron Ring must attend a Ceremony and undertake the Obligation in the presence of their peers.  This is at the core of the tradition of the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer. If you register but are unable to attend the ceremony for any reason, we will not be able to send your ring. We are a volunteer group and  don’t do refunds, so if you miss the event we are sorry, you will need to register and pay for the next one. Please be aware that attendance will be taken.

Guests are allowed.  You can invite as many in person guests as the COVID rules allow at that time, and you may provide us one other Email address for a guest to join us online as space allows. Our Webinar license has a limit, but we will have space for some online guests.

Are you eligible?   All students graduating with an undergraduate degree in Engineering from a Canadian University, and practicing engineers accepted for professional membership by APEGA, EIT’s and P.Eng, are eligible to attend the Iron Ring Ceremony.  Iron Ring Camps across Canada are listed here.

When you register, and you are graduating from a university other than U of C, we will ask you to upload your diploma or other documentation such as as a transcript to validate your graduation. APEGA members will simply need to supply their APEGA registration number.

We are planning a ring exchange.  If your ring doesn’t fit very well after you receive it we are planning a ring exchange a few weeks after the ritual to allow in person exchanges. These will be by appointment only, and will only be conducted if the current provincial rules are relaxed  to allow this to happen. Hopefully by April that will be the case.
