The next Iron Ring Ceremony in Calgary is planned for November 13th, 1:30 PM In Person ( we hope!)
We will need your ring size! Go to any jewelry shop to get the Pinky finger of your working hand sized for a standard North American ring, it will be 1 to 12, in full and half sizes only. There should be no charge for this.
Registration for the ceremony will open Oct 1st, 2021 and will close in early November. Graduates from other Canadian universities and professional members from APEGA will be welcome to attend as usual.
We hope we can do this in person. If the rules allow us, we will hold the Ritual in person, but are planning to live stream the event as well. You will have the option to attend either in person or on line, as will your guests.
You must attend. Everyone who wishes to wear the Iron Ring must attend a Ceremony and undertake the Obligation in the presence of their peers. This is at the core of the tradition of the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer. If you register but are unable to attend the ceremony for any reason, we will not be able to send your ring. We are a volunteer group and don’t do refunds, so if you miss the event we are sorry, you will need to register and pay for the next one. Please be aware that attendance will be taken.
Guests are allowed. You can invite two in person guests assuming the COVID rules allow it at that time, and you may provide us an additional Email address for your guest to join us online.
Are you eligible? All students graduating with an undergraduate degree in Engineering from a Canadian University, and practicing engineers accepted for professional membership by APEGA, EIT’s and P.Eng, are eligible to attend the Iron Ring Ceremony. Iron Ring Camps across Canada are listed here.
When you register, and you are graduating from a university other than U of C, we will ask you to upload your diploma or other documentation such as as a transcript to validate your graduation. APEGA members will simply need to supply their APEGA registration number.
We are planning a ring exchange. If your ring doesn’t fit very well after you receive it we will have a ring exchange for you, either in person or by mail for the online attendees.
